The Mall Galleries are championing innovation and excellence in figurative art by launching a brand new art prize designed to showcase the best in new contemporary figurative art.
Two major prizes offer the chance to win a total of £35,000: the £25,000 Threadneedle Figurative Prize and the £10,000 Federation of British Artists Selectors' Choice.
The competition is open to all artists - established and emerging talent - aged 18 and over living or working in the UK. 71 works in a variety of different media were selected from a national open submission and will be on view at the Mall Galleries, London from 20 August to 6 September 2008.
Seven works, nominated by the panel of selectors, have been shortlisted to win the £25,000 Threadneedle Figurative Prize. The artist who receives the largest share of public votes cast online and throughout the exhibition wins the Prize. All works selected for the exhibition may win the £10,000 Federation of British Artists Selectors' Choice, awarded by the selectors to the artist they believe has submitted the most outstanding work.
The same artist can win both prizes, making this event the most valuable competition for a single work of art in the UK.
